Paula Guerra

 

Paula Guerra is convenor of KISMIF Conference.

 

She is Professor of Sociology at Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto (FLUP, Portugal), and senior researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto (IS-UP, Portugal), Centre for the Study of Geography and Spatial Planning (CEGOT, Portugal) and Adjunct Associate Professor at Griffith Centre for Cultural Research (GCCR, Australia). She has coordinated and participated in various (national and international) research projects subordinated to the themes of youth culture, popular music, sociology of arts and culture and especially the particular case studies of indie rock, underground music scenes, DIY and punk. She is the coordinator of the research project “Keep it Simple, Make it Fast! (www.punk.pt) which is in the origin of KISMIF Conference. Paula Guerra published recently the books A instável leveza do rock [The unstable lightness of rock] (2013), As palavras do punk [The words of punk] (2015), More than Loud (2015), On the road to the American underground (2015) and she is author of some scientific articles published in journals such as Critical Arts, European Journal of Cultural Studies, Popular Music and Society, Journal of Sociology, Punk & Post Punk, Portuguese Journal of Social Sciences, among others. She’s co-editor of the Sage Journal DIY, Alternative Cultures and Society.

Youth cultures, popular music, sociology of arts and culture, research methodology, cultural policies, cultural studies, DIY culture, media and culture, fanzines, design, illustration, punk rock, urban cultures, popular cultures, cultural industries, cultural mediation, cultural production and artistic creation.
