Built in 1325, the Casa do Infante is named after Henrique, the Navigator.
The building is one of the city’s oldest and was also once its largest, primarily due to the two towers built in the 14th century, which disappeared many years ago. This national monument has served different purposes over the centuries, as a residence for official visits by the royal family, as the old Customs house and Mint (Casa da Moeda) of Porto, whose services were based there for several centuries. The house was restored in the 1990s and, as a result of archaeological excavations, various vestiges of modern, medieval and Roman occupation were revealed. Mosaic floors, among other discoveries, indicate that it was the home, or mansion, of a wealthy citizen in the Roman era.
Station 12 of the Porto City Museum is inscribed in the sound axis and also the material axis of the map. It reactivates vestiges of memory, consisting of different traces and gestures. In addition to the permanent exhibitions and the Archive, the CABINET OF TIME was inaugurated in 2020, hosting a series of exhibitions that provoke an in-depth experience of different episodes and perspectives in the city’s history, inspiring memories and allowing the imagination to take leaps and bounds and construct more or less likely relations
