Maria Ferreira (Porto, 1988) has been working as a programmer, curator, and DJ for over a decade. She has built an international career and is one of the most influential female and feminist DJs with a significant impact on the club scene of Porto. In 2011, she co-founded the female collective Grrrl Riot Porto. She is the programmer and coordinator of the multifaceted Passos Manuel, where she focuses on promoting local culture and artistic communities that she has been a part of since an early age, as well as the freshest and most avant-garde international music circuit. Additionally, she conducts independent research. In December 2023 and January 2024, she presented “Porto de Dança: A Brief History of Club Culture in the City (1974-2023)”, a research project in collaboration with Rodrigo Affreixo. The presentation was part of the film cycle “After Hours: Clubbing at the Cinema” at Batalha Film Center.

 

Rodrigo Affreixo (Porto, 1963) has been a cultural journalist since 1989, film critic, programmer, librarian and DJ. He started DJing in 1999 at venues such as Anikibobó, Maus Hábitos, and Triplex and has performed at more than 30 venues. He created the theme nights “80” (1999), “Chocolate Preto” (2000), “Super Cock/LusoPop” (2001) and “Disco Heavy” (2003). He was a resident DJ and programmer at Maus Hábitos (2005-06) and Champ’s RED (2017). He currently DJs at Plano B (Gigi) and Passos Manuel. As an independent researcher, his paper “INCREASE THE VOLUME! Boîtes, pubs, bars, discos, clubs, parties, and all celebrations”, was published in “MusonautsVisions and Breakdowns 1960-2010 – 5 Decades of Musical Unrest in Porto”, an editorial project signed by Paulo Vinhas and Guilherme Blanc, published in 2019 by Porto Municipal Gallery.
