Capicua

Capicua, the stage name of Ana Matos Fernandes (Porto), is a Portuguese rapper. She made her name on the Portuguese music scene, and as an MC, with songs such as “Vayorken” and “Maria Capaz”. For her third album, Madrepérola, she won the José Afonso Prize in 2021.

Ana Matos Fernandes was born in Porto, did a degree in Sociology at ISCTE and a PhD in Human Geography in Barcelona, but what she always wanted to do was make music. In 2012, her music reached a wider audience, being talked about in all the Portuguese media, and she managed to professionalise herself in music. Since then, he has also made several appearances with other artists, including Sérgio Godinho, Sam the Kid and DJ Ride. His work is greatly influenced by Portuguese poets, especially the poetry of Sophia de Mello Breyner.

In 2014, her music inspired the name of the feminist platform created by Rita Ferro Rodrigues and Iva Domingues, Maria Capaz. In 2017, she received the José da Ponte Prize, awarded by SPA to young authors.
