Mariana Gaivão Chichorro Nogueira Ramos (Lisbon, 21 February 1984) is an award-winning Portuguese filmmaker.
Born in Lisbon, she studied Photography at Ar.Co and Directing at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. She began her career as an editor, having collaborated on films screened and awarded worldwide prizes at the Cannes, Berlin, Venice and Locarno film festivals, among others.
Her first short film, SOLO, won, among others, the prize for Best Short Film at the Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma de Montreal, after which she was selected for Berlinale Talents as an emerging talent in the field of Directing.
She then directed the short film “First Light”, commissioned for the opening of the 42nd Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma, and recently, the short film “RUBY”, winner of the “Best Direction” award at the 27th Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival and premiered in the Official Selection at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, 2020.
Alongside her career as a director, she has also been a programmer for Queer Lisboa – International Queer Film Festival and taught directing at ETIC – School of Innovation and Creation Technologies.
