Scúru Fitchádu

Scúru Fitchádu [Escuro Cerrado] is Marcus Veiga and makes direct reference to both Cape Verdean and African music, within a disruptive punk and electronic aesthetic where influences and different musical universes.
It is the result of the experiences of an Afro-descendant with a Cape Verdean father and an Angolan mother, born in Portugal and who has accumulated artistic stimuli and varied geographical experiences.
The Scúru Fitchádu project was born in mid-2016, releasing the first eponymous EP “Scúru Fitchádu” the following year.
This was followed by many performances in clubs and festivals all over the country, as well as the first internationalisations. In January 2020, their first full-length, “Un Kuza Runhu” [A Bad Thing], was released, further confirming their distinctive exploration and crossing of sonorities, earning them a place on the lists of the best albums released that same year by the specialised media, who also considered this one of the freshest and most vital projects in recent times in national music. Scúru Fitchádu has featured in the programmes of some of the most important alternative and exploratory music festivals in Portugal and abroad. Their unique and very characteristic sound makes them easy to fit into most musical spectrums, from electronic bass to to punk rock and metal.

His most recent work was released in January 2023 – “Nez txada skúru dentu skina na braku fundu” [In this dark finding around the corner in a deep hole] and is a work conceptually inspired by the revolutionary African liberation movements, their players, their guidelines and legacies, paralleling these themes with a poetic interpretation of the current urban spectrum. This disc of 11 songs, whose sound aspires to an even more experimental level than the previous work, has a strong focus on orality, with subversive and protesting verses. It also features Cachupa Psicadélica on “Mar Brabu”, O GAJO and Henrique Silva (Acácia Maior) on “Korre Manuel”.
